One of the best ways to send your child off to school happy is with a fun lunch they will be proud to eat, and will look forward to throughout the day.
Kids love anything wrapped up and rolled. Here are a few fun back-to-school lunch bag tips:
1. Spread a whole grain organic tortilla with SunFlower Seed Butter (make sure your school is ok with seed butters, most are), sprinkle the sun butter with a little yummy sea-salt, drizzle with 1 tablespoon maple syrup, about 1/2 teaspoon of raw cacao for brain power and delicious chocolate flavor. Then place a whole banana in the center and roll it up. You can cut these into bite size pieces, they are like banana sushi.
2. Spread a whole grain organic tortilla with a little hummus then add 1/2 avocado, shredded lettuce, tomato and shredded carrots. Roll it up and cut in half and enjoy it as a sandwich.
3. Kids will eat anything on a stick. I like to pick up some thin, short, wooden skewers, and stack them up with beautiful colorful fruit: banana, strawberry, blueberries, kiwi, and mango. Just for safety, I like to put a small mini marshmallow on the pointy end of the skewer, your kids will love this little treat!
4. Another fun and great lunch to send your kids to school with is to make a gorgeous healthy yogurt parfait. I would recommend using a nice glass container with a lid, or BPA free plastic container with a lid. Layer your favorite organic yogurt (my kids like sheep and goat, which are healthier and super delicious) with a little drizzle of maple syrup, organic or homemade granola, and chopped up berries.
5. There is nothing more satisfying and nothing cooler than to be the kid who breaks out the gorgeous sandwich. You are better off consuming bread that is made in small batches with whole real ingredients. Many forward thinking grocers, will bake a sprouted grain bread, or a sourdough. They are both better choices than what you can buy in the plastic bag on the shelf. Layer that sandwich with nitrate free organic turkey, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and cucumber slices for a delicious wholesome sandwich.
