Today Facebook announced an “important milestone.”
According to Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, Monday, August 24, 2015 saw 1 billion users log into Facebook.
“On Monday one in seven people on Earth used Facebook to connect with friends and family.”
~ Mark Zuckerberg
This is huge. The allure of Facebook is because it fulfills the basic human need of connection.
Facebook’s mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected.
I have to say: they nailed it.
Back in 2008, I was late to finally subscribe to Facebook. Looking back, I’d been living in the dark ages. Facebook has changed my life. Connecting with old friends and family was fun at first. Then quickly I was connecting with powerful business people and leaders in my community. Now I am among them. Five years after starting my Facebook account, I work in social media and actually get paid to look at Facebook.
And I’m not alone. Obviously. More than 1 billion people have a personal Facebook story of their own.
