I suffer from deep self loathing.
Most days I can’t stand to be around myself.
I suppose we all feel this way sometimes—trapped in this body, this personality, with the baggage of our past weighing us down and our future filled with anxiety, uncertainty and way too many emails.
But ultimately I am always just stuck with myself. Since the moment I was born I have known nothing but me and my personal experience of life.
So I figure it’s time to get to know myself a bit better. It’s time to make friends with myself.
If I could give myself a few pieces of advice, as a friend, it would be this (though I doubt I would listen to myself!):
You’re capable of loving greatly – spend time everyday opening your heart to the world.
Eat more fruit and veg.
Don’t dwell on the things you can’t change or the people who create friction in your life.
Focus on momentum.
Be grateful for the good gifts from the universe but also the not so good ones.
Love life unconditionally.
Find more time to play, you can take things a bit too seriously at times.
Call your Grandma more, she is getting older.
Love.
Love more.
And then love even more.
Then love some more.
You’re allowed to forgive yourself—your past has passed.
Above all, don’t let a single moment go by unexperienced. Your time is here and now—make the most of it.
That’s it really, that would be my advice to me.
If I can learn to take it, I can learn to love myself a bit better while I still have the chance.
