She looked at me and said, “I can’t laugh at this any more,” as we were watching a video clip with a badly written joke.
I looked at her in return and I smiled what was most certainly a half-hearted attempt at a smile.
A few seconds ticked by after what seemed like infinity and I said all that I could think to say, unfiltered and unadorned.
I said, “I’m encouraged that we’re beginning to notice it.”
She nodded, relieved. And we continued on, seconds ticking away into the hour.
The #metoo movement has changed the way we all think about and experience life around us and I, for one, want to stand on a rooftop and thank the heavens above for the slow, yet burgeoning, awareness it has begun.
