I wrote this because it was not my experience, but it was, and still is, how I chose to parent when I became pregnant at 18.
The shame! (Me, who always played the Virgin Mary in nativity plays – although P.S I requested Madonna “Like a Virgin” blast out when I walked on stage to deliver a presentation recently. Claiming the word virgin back. He!)
My daughter is now almost 23, we have grown together and navigated through some murky uncertain moments that life chucked our way. She is a fantastic human. Intuitive, kind, powerful, wise, passionate. All at the same time. I’m grateful she came into my life.
I may write more of our story, my story, at a later date, I simply wanted to share this small part of me today. That whatever shame you feel can be transformed into strength and understanding – it takes acknowledging the pain to do so – but it can be done.
