Wide Awake.
Then,
I was sleepwalking.
I lived in suburbia
With clothes, shoes,
and a coat,
With a roof,
dishes,
and a shower.
I sat on a chair or a couch.
I watched this or that.
I read what I pleased.
My dog watched me,
Lovingly.
I awake.
Humanely,
My dog waits by me.
I read plastic books.
I watch fake facts.
I sit on a chair covered in chemicals.
With a roof of unsustainable cedar,
dishes dipped in poison,
and a shower raining toxins,
With clothes, shoes, and a coat made
from fast fashion and foreign slave labor,
I live in eco-sucking suburbia.
I’m awake,
Now.
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” ~ Dr. Seuess
