Have you gone through writer’s block? Well, every writer needs the inspiration to come up with the best stories. I’ve been writing for close to ten years now, and I’ve discovered that the best way to nurture your creative mind is by getting enough sleep.

Peter from Topmattress.com, one of the best sleep review sites today, even agrees with me. He said, “Having regular sleeping patterns gives our bodies improved health, better weight control and most of all, rejuvenates our mental faculties.” Of course, lack of sleep would lead to opposite results. So, don’t spend long hours on your computer screen as you work on that ‘Best Seller.’ So, how does sleep affect your writing creativity?

Memorizing Ideas plus Gaining Inspiration

Do you love dreaming? One of the main reasons why I love going to sleep is the chance to dream. Interestingly, they work to bring together experiences and show that your brain is trying to make sense of different memories and thoughts. However nonsensical they might appear, dreams play a massive part in creating amazing experiences in my memories. This is not surprising, considering even that creating art takes time to connect unrelated experiences and thoughts.

It Helps in Lucid Dreaming

The practice of always being conscious of all that you’re experiencing helps in boosting creativity. I can explore a whole chunk of possibility without the normal governing of rules of real life.

If you want to try out lucid dreaming, here are some helpful steps:

– Always ask yourself if you’re dreaming especially on those waking moments.
– If you wake up in between the night, ask yourself if you’re dreaming.

You Enjoy a Better Hypnopompic Stage

Although the term ‘hypnopompic’ might sound complicated, it’s just the stage of coming out of a long night’s rest. In this period, your brain is rich with various images from the dreams you had during the REM phase. Here, I also found out that it helps you to build creative solutions to multiple problems.

What does Stephen King Think?

I enjoy reading the books of Stephen King. Although they are quite scary, they grab my imagination from the moment you turn the first page. So, what makes him develop such creative stories? King says that “A regular sleep routine encourages your conscious mind to unlock all the imaginations you access during sleep.”

I further learned that as your mind and body enjoy a certain level of sleep every night, sleeping for eight hours is the most recommended option. Well, this is because of reasons such as:

– It helps your waking brain to rest creatively.
– It can work out imagined and fictional dreams.

As I wind up, I would like to remind you that we need sleep for various reasons. Keep in mind that it gives our bodies with the best period to recharge. However, if the above factors are anything to go by, you can see that there’s growing belief that it helps in writing creativity.

Besides, even famous writers like Stephen King agree with me! So, take the initiative and improve your sleeping experience and you’ll join him too in the list of the ‘writing greats.’
