Whether you’re traveling by plane, train or automobile, a trip with a baby can be quite tricky if you’re not prepared well. So here are seven tips that can ease your journey.
Plan ahead. Make sure that you book your tickets ahead. If you’re traveling by plane, book with airlines that provide bassinets and confirm if you can carry certain types of strollers as hand baggage. If you’re taking a train, you can choose the privacy of compartments for breastfeeding and undisturbed napping sessions. If you’re taking an automobile, plan several stops beforehand.
Manage time. Choose your time of journey to suit your baby’s routine, sleeping, and feeding schedule. Take the most direct routes possible and try not to travel more than seven hours straight by plane. If you’re traveling by air, arrive and complete security check-ins early to avoid stress. If you’re taking the automobile, take rests in between.
Charge all your electronics full in case of travel emergencies.
Bring your own food. You may not readily avail baby foods and formulas during some travels, so bring a lot of edibles and liquids. It will occupy your baby’s attention as well.
Pack wisely. Pack as many essential supplies as you can- diapers, baby care products, extra clothes, blanket and waste bin. Make sure that you bring baby car seats and window shades.
Entertainment. Bring several colorful toys to hold your baby’s attention. If you travel by automobile, playing relaxing music also works to comfort your baby.
Dress your baby comfortably for easier movements and to easily change diapers. You can layer your baby’s clothing depending on the temperature inside the plane, train or automobile.
If you plan and prepare well, your trips will get easier as you travel more. If you follow these tips, much of your travel stress can be lessened.
