The University of Colorado Boulder was recently named the number one party school in the country.
Thus, we at the elephant were curious to see what the campus looked like at 4:20 p.m. today, April 20, 2011 (we just picked a random date and time, of course).
We wondered if it would be possible to actually see the reefer smoke billow up over campus, just moments after everyone on the quad lit up.
As it turns out, the CU community has earnestly earned their new party-school title, and the cloud of smoke rising from above campus at 4:21 p.m. MT, was indeed visible from miles away, despite even today’s hazy April weather.
Leading up to 4:20, campus security and town police were stationed at roads leading directly to campus, but couldn’t really do much besides watch as the trickle of campus “visitors” made their way up the University hill.
and moments later…

And those airplanes flying banners above the campus from 4:15 onward?
They’re advertising local headshops, apparently trying to squeeze all possible meaning out of the phrase “getting high.”
