Not professional advice/just recommendations to try before you set up a mental health appointment with me for your child…
- Eliminate the excessive use of :
- TV
- small tablets/electronics
- Tidy up and get rid of clutter
- Avoid yelling, talking loudly or excessive chatter
- Open windows (when it’s nice out) and get outside
- Plant a garden and go to Farmer’s Markets
- Buy natural cleaning supplies or make your own with vinegar and essential oils
- Filter your water
- Get an air purifier, buy Epsom salts and use it in their baths
- Eat meals together
- Incorporate herbals such as chamomile, rose, echinacea, nettles, and oat straw
- Make vegetables and fruits the mainstay of your family’s diet
- Eat organic, and grass-fed meats (Eliminate fast food)
- Decrease/eliminate added sugar from cooking
- Avoid boxed foods
- Have your kids help with meal planning, shopping, and cooking
- Worry less about grades and more about who is teaching your child
- Get involved in their school…But cut them slack and don’t hover…
- Get to know your their friends
- Practice self-care
- Lead by example
- Don’t smoke in your home or car
- Avoid addictive behaviors
- Allow your child to make mistakes/allow them to fail
- Laugh more
- Develop a spiritual practice and follow it regularly
- Set up a routine for the family and stick to it
- Have a spot for everything in the house
- Be consistent
- Volunteer as a family to cultivate gratitude
- Be open and honest w/them
- Talk to them about your (and their!) family history
- Consider decreasing (or eliminating) gluten and dairy for 6 months to see if this results in any positive behavioral changes (Do this as a family!)
- Forgive yourself if you make mistakes. (Try one suggestion at a time!)
