I understand that most of you reading this will disagree with what I am about to say, but Most of the illnesses that we are going through, including mental illness, resides in our heads.
If you’re Ill, and you continue to think that you’re, that illness will only continue or get worse. It will continue to stay with you, or it will manifest into something potentially more significant.
I am not saying that illnesses don’t exist, they do.
I have been living with Epilepsy and Cerebral Palsy, and mild depression and anxiety my whole life, and I too, used to THINK that my life would never get better. I used to THINK that I was no good, and I used to THINK that, life, was shitty, that is until I realized that my thoughts are what was genuinely stopping me from living a happy, healthy, more grateful life. I knew that my disorders weren’t going to get any better, and I thought about it that way, and that made them worse, until I decided to accept, and love the life that I have, and THINK about it completely differently.
But this isn’t about me, this is about you, and why I want you also to be able to live a happier existence and think happier too.
There has been an epidemic going around, and I am not talking about Cancer, obesity, or heart disease, I am talking about how we are choosing to THINK about our ailments and our lot in life that is making us sicker.
We are all dealing with something whether it be physical, mental, or emotional, and it can be tough to stomach at times, but in the words of the late Randy Pausch, in his book, the last lecture. “We can’t change the cards that we’ve been dealt, just how we play the hand.”
It is our way of thinking about our circumstances that ultimately change the outcome and our viewpoint on the issue.
In an article by New York Times bestselling author, Dr. Lisa Rankin, she writes about a study done of 30,000 Chinese Americans and compared them to over 400,000 randomly selected White Americans, the findings were astounding. It showed the Chinese-Americans died up to five years earlier than the randomly selected white Americans if they have a combination of illness, and birth year which Chinese astrology and Chinese medicine consider ill-fated. It was the belief about their ill-fated birth year that killed them, not the illness itself. The doctors of the study further stated that isn’t wasn’t genes or lifestyle that altered their life expectancy, but solely their beliefs that caused their early death.
Choosing to think differently about your circumstance will ultimately change how you view the circumstance itself, and may even play a big role in whether your illness gets better or worse, and your life gets longer, rather than shorter.
Get out of your head and into your heart. Think differently about your circumstance, and start feeling better about it too.
Keep on keeping on, Danny
