Having a ‘Plan B’ is an overrated concept and I can prove it. People define ‘Plan B’ as something that is to be done if the thing you originally wanted to do (Plan A) did not go as planned. And in most of the cases, this ‘Plan A’ is something that a person wants to do with his passion and talent. Another question for you, if you truly believe in your talent and passion, what do you need a ‘Plan B’ for?
Having a ‘Plan B’ doesn’t necessarily mean that you do not believe in your talent, however, it surely will make the progress of you following your passion very slow. There are a lot of examples to support my statement, one of them being Eminem.
“This is the only thing I know, so the day that I can’t rap, I would probably jump out of a window” – Eminem
There’s a lot to this statement and I can easily prove my point with it. Everyone knows Eminem is of the greatest rappers of all time. And the reason for the same can be easily understood from his above-mentioned statement. Eminem is referring to rapping as he says “this is the only thing I know”. This means he never had a ‘Plan B’ and that’s why he put all of his effort and time into his passion which is rapping.
According to me, if he had a ‘Plan B’, he would’ve been lenient with his life knowing that if he doesn’t make it in rap, he’ll still be able to earn a living with his ‘Plan B’. I’m glad he didn’t do that and we got to witness greatness.
Now, the point is that if you won’t have a ‘Plan B’, you’ll only focus on your one true talent as you would know that this is the only thing that you can do. You’ll pay full attention to the goal ahead of you instead of focusing on other things to prepare for a ‘Plan B’. I never had a ‘Plan B’ and I’m glad I didn’t because today I am what I always wanted to be.
I followed my one true passion for photography and got to taste what they call success. I don’t want to come off as a boaster, I just want to inspire people with the way I think. Trust me, if you focus on an alternative, you won’t be able to unleash your full potential in the one thing you are best at and that is… your passion.
So, believe in yourself and keep doing what you want to do with full determination and concentration. You need to forget about having an alternative (Plan B) if you want to taste success with the help of your one true passion. What if Sachin Tendulkar had a ‘Plan B’? Would he be able to become ‘the god of cricket’? I don’t think so. Sachin Tendulkar and many other successful people never had a ‘Plan B’ and this helped them in focusing on their talent.
You can take the example of many G.O.A.T(s) of their respective fields and realize that a ‘Plan B’ does nothing more than curbing your potential.
