The whole world is seeking happiness and people are relentless in doing it – from expectations that fuel one’s desires to the satisfaction of achieving said desires. What people don’t know is, that happiness has several peaks. 80% of humanity spend their entire lifespans on the first peak of happiness called Achievement.
The distinct characteristic of the first peak is that we are overwhelmed with greed. People always want more and more, and we never really drop our desires and expectations. Every time a desire is fulfilled, we become happy, and every time it is not, we become unhappy. They think this is life, and so they continue living, wanting, seeking, achieving, and being happy and again becoming unhappy. They live and die on this first peak of happiness without realizing that there are happiness peaks beyond.
I call the second peak of happiness–FULFILLMENT. This peak is far greater and far more joyous than the first peak of Achievement. The happiness that this second peak offered was amazing. It was all about being content, being satisfied, and being fulfilled.
The joy, peace, bliss, and tranquillity on this peak is unlike the first peak, comes from a sense of fulfilment rather than achievement. Satisfaction and fulfilment can only come when you’re content with something. are fewer expectations and hence, fewer disappointments. The greed and craving of the achievers do create excitement, but also creates heartache and pain that comes from disappointments.
People, when it comes to transforming their life, they usually go saying,
“I will do it someday”
“I am waiting to make my next million”
“I would do it if my children get married”
“I would like to be happy, but I am unable to leave my business”
“I will set up a charitable institution if my business grows forty per cent every year”
People live with BIBS – the four dangerous words that rob happiness: “But, If, Because, and Someday” That someday never comes! It never comes because life slips by. Wake up and be happy by living a life of contentment and fulfilment, knowing that life is short. Many people, just live and die. They forget to laugh and so they forget to live.
In my previous article, I had shared how I sought the path to the third peak of happiness. When my life transformed, I knew I wanted to move on and had to rebrand myself to RVM, so I wouldn’t slip back to former personality. Those were the times when everything I did gave me contentment. I looked up to people like Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller. I also read about many others who moved on to greater happiness. I was clear that I too can make a difference and saw the potential happiness that could come if I touch, trigger and transform people’s lives.
With this inspiration, I need courage and conviction. This is when I got the final push from my mentor and my guru, Dada J.P Vaswani. He encouraged me to shut my business down so I could pursue this new, transformed life. I left the business world, departed from the peak of achievement. The second peak of happiness was far more joyous and peaceful than the first. I could make a difference as intended
through Humanitarian, Inspirational and Spiritual work. I did not sacrifice my pleasure and was living a normal life, travelling across the world, eating, drinking and being merry with contentment and fulfilment. I would have lived and died on this second peak of happiness. I felt like I was the happiest man alive.
The day my Guru asked me questions about life and our very existence, I was caught off-guard. I had no answers but I knew one thing for sure, that these questions could lead me to a higher level of peace. I so started a quest, for the true purpose of life. For 2 years I was very calm doing my research. I studied religion and philosophy. At this point, I did not know that I was searching for the third peak of happiness. I was only looking for the true purpose of life. At times, I foolish to have given up the pleasures of achievement and the bliss of fulfilment. But, this was something different. I have questions that changed my life from then on and lead me straight and true to the third peak of happiness. You can find these in my book that’s linked below. A seeker of the third peak must start with those questions.
The seeker must have faith, hope, and belief that the third peak exists. One of two things will lead the seeker to the third peak. A passion for finding the purpose of life or an obsession to discover the third peak of happiness. These two reasons can open the doors to liberation from the prisons of misery and sorrow. One has to pass through Discrimination, Dispassion, Discipline, and Desire for Liberation to arrive at the ultimate peak of happiness. Seek self-realization, the truth of who we are and what we are.
This liberates us, eradicates ignorance and grants us the superior vision to discriminate the unreal from real. You may find my experiences in realizing the truth and attaining true bliss, in the book that’s liked.
Seek for yourself. Ask. Investigate and Realize the Truth.
