“What is your obsession with Disney?” Asks everyone I know. I didn’t know the answer for the longest time! In fact, it wasn’t until recently when I realized how much Disney has shaped me into the woman I am today.
See, Walt Disney himself was a dreamer. He dreamt up Mickey! He dreamt up Disneyland! He dreamt up Disney World! He dreamt up Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It was like he was given the Divine purpose of dreaming! How amazing, right?
The reason I obsess so much is because I’m meant to dream too! And Walt Disney and I are not special. It is not a privilege to be able to dream, it is our right as humans to dream!
Making dreams come true isn’t something we are encouraged to do, for many reasons. The one I keep coming across is people want to keep us safe. I am sure that was the same for Walt Disney too. Time and time again he was told no. Time and time again he was told not to go for it. He could’ve listened and then we wouldn’t have “the most magical place on Earth.” (Have you seen or been the child seeing the castle for the first time? It is magical!) And I’m sure that his family wanted to keep him safe. The problem with keeping everyone safe from potential “failures” is that the potential for success is lost too. And what is failure anyways??? End of the world? Probably not. A learning opportunity? Always. So when we keep people safe from the possibility of failing we are not only keeping them from potential success or a learning opportunity we are squashing many dreams that want to come to life.
And I can’t help but think of us as kids. If we have experienced the privilege to BE kids, truly BE kids and didn’t have to grow up quickly, then once upon a time we were all dreamers. We had hours of play time and we believed anything was possible. Then we went to school where we spent 8 hours learning about math, science, writing, reading, history, languages, etc. These are great things to study. But we lost play. We lost our dreams. Why? Because people were not nurturing and encouraging us to follow our dreams.
It’s not the school’s fault, or our society’s fault, it’s just everyone’s programming. They were only doing what they thought was best based on the programming. So I am not going to waste time talking about what everyone else could have done to create the future I want. I am going to create the future I want. And if you want it too then you must join me in creating that change within our own lives! We need to not wait for anyone to give us permission to go for our dreams! We must nurture our own dreams! We must give ourselves the encouragement.
“But why even bother?” you’re asking me. Well because if you believe in the Divine, you can call it whatever you want, you know we have been given purpose. Not A purpose, we have been given purpose. It is our duty to tune into our Higher Self (aka the soul), take action towards finding our purpose, and lastly following that guidance. Many of us actually know some of what our purpose is but we don’t trust it because AGAIN we aren’t encouraged to. Your purpose will give you dreams!
What is a dream you have? Ask that question out loud, write it down, and then see what answer comes up. Don’t think it, feel it! You can never think your way into knowing.
Once you have that inkling of your dream, my best unsolicited advice is don’t do it alone! We must, eventually, build our dreams with help! We must surround ourselves with the community we seek to have. Because one day you will ask yourself, “should I give up?” And you will need your people who truly know you and this dream intimately to tell you how capable you are, how valuable this dream is, and if there is further hesitation to tune into your Higher Self.
“Who, even, are you?” you ask in your last attempt to rebuttle me. I am a dreamer! Just like you! The only difference might be that I am dancing with my dreams and bringing them to life!
I don’t know how it will pan out. I do know I have not gone this journey alone and because of that I have flourished. I do know that everyday I need to connect with my dreams just like I brush my teeth everyday, twice a day. I do know, no one gave me permission except me. I do know when I questioned my dreams or couldn’t go in deep, I had people there to remind me of how special my dreams and I are.
I want you to know above all else that the dreamer in me sees the dreamer within you. And the part of me who dreams wants you to know that you got this! You can dream, you can dance with your dreams, and you don’t have to do it alone. But you do need to start. Once you do, even when you want to turn back you won’t, because you will finally recognize that you have purpose, you are given Divine dreams, and you can’t pass up working with the Divine. The Divine is MAGICAL! And then if that wasn’t enough, you will realize you are MAGICAL too!
Acknowledgements: Thanks Dad for bringing me to Disney. And thanks Walt Disney for not listening to the no’s. Thanks for showing up for your dream and putting your magic out into the world. Lastly, thanks for inspiring me!
