( an update on the patriarchy)

Men are still shouting
their wants from the sidewalk,
continually letting themselves
marinate in the assumption
-That we exist for their pleasure-
stealing the sway of our hips,
stretching their necks,
to size up our curves.

How odd,
that this kind of masculinity,
uses the same voice
to keep modesty stuffed down our throats,
when our essence bubbles over
the proverbial rim, so organically,
and threatens their power.
