Vedic Astrology, or jyotish, is one of the oldest sciences on the planet and considered a relative of astronomy. It is an important and valuable part of the ancient Vedic texts. This complex, logic-based, and also intuitive science, has survived thousands of years in India’s Vedic tradition and is still considered a highly valuable tool of guidance and life insight. It is not a religion, but rather a philosophical understanding of human and cosmic existence. In Sanskrit, jyoti means light.
Essentially, the study of jyotish is the study of light and how we interact with the cosmic light—within us and within the cosmos. Vedic astrology, or the sidereal approach to astrology casts charts differently to Western or Tropical astrology. The meanings, implications, and purpose of jyotish is therefore different, as are the details used for prediction and the indications given below.

Interestingly, before the new year even began, the first eclipse of the season occurred on December 26th, 2019. The first 10 days of the new year will be within the two-week eclipse portal, offering shadow and intensification. This particular eclipse cycle will end on the 10th of January with a Penumbral Lunar eclipse.
Eclipses intensify everything and tend to make mountains out of molehills. We may get lost in the overwhelm and negativity during this two-week cycle, so keep moving toward the light. Stay positive and look for solutions rather than focusing on the darkness, but do not bypass the necessary inner work that you are being asked to show up for.
Major 2020 Transits
Saturn in Capricorn
Saturn is the first planet to change signs this year on January 23rd. As the slowest moving planet, Saturn takes 2.5 years to move through a sign. This means that the impact Saturn has on your life is slow, drawn out, and lasting.
Structure is Saturn’s domain—of the physical human form, the muscles, bones, and tissues—as well as the universe. He is old, he rules old age, and also that which comes with age. He is vata, air, and dries things out as a result. The absence of water (life) brings death, and when the water of the physical body dries up, we die.
As Saturn moves to his own sign of Capricorn on January 23rd, he brings balance and stability with him. Capricorn is one of his favorite signs and he feels at home here. As an earthy sign of hard laborious work, Saturn loves the work ethic of this sign and supports structured, positive results.
Notice where Capricorn is in your Jyotish chart. The themes of this house will be asking for simplicity, clear action, consistent steps.
Jupiter in Sagittarius and Capricorn
Jupiter is doing a strange dance this year from his most balanced sign, Sagittarius, to his sign of debilitation, Capricorn, then back to Sagittarius. This keeps him in close proximity to Saturn for a large portion of the year, despite Saturn changing signs. Saturn is contraction, whereas Jupiter brings expansion. Together, they can bring ultimate harmony and balance.
On March 29th, Jupiter enters Capricorn and becomes debilitated. Here, he will have to contend with Saturn once again, while feeling the pinch of debilitation simultaneously. This can squeeze and cause pressure to Jupiter’s expansive ways. A debilitated planet can’t offer much outer support as its energy turns inward.
Once Jupiter lands in Capricorn and goes debilitated, then goes retrograde on May 14th, a reversal will take place called Neecha Bhanga. A debilitated planet that goes into retrograde motion is said to become exalted—almost. This will strengthen the effect of Jupiter and will offer more support while he moves through Capricorn, however, it’s not a complete cancellation. The important dates to note:
Moves to Capricorn and debilitation on March 29th, 2020
Retrograde, debilitation reverses, May 14th, 2020
Moves back to Sagittarius, his own sign, on June 29th, 2020
Goes direct on September 12th, 2020
Moves into Capricorn and debilitation on November 19th, 2020
The movement of Jupiter this year brings balance and harmony, expansion and dharmic focus while he passes through Sagittarius. Look to see where Sagittarius and Capricorn live in your jyotish chart to identify the themes that will require more balance.
Rahu in Gemini and Ketu in Sagittarius
The nodes, as Rahu and Ketu are referred to, are mischievous in nature. They present our karmas to us in this incarnation. Without them, and their valuable life lessons, we would not have incarnated into a human body. Both Rahu and Ketu have their own unique array of offerings, but because they are shadow “planets” they often evade prediction. Their nature is to deceive, mystify, to be illusive, and to blind us from our true nature.
Rahu and Ketu request that we ask ourselves: What am I not seeing or what am I not willing to see? What am I clinging to and unable to let go of?
On March 7th, 2019, our karmas shifted yet again. Rahu moved to creative, airy Gemini, and Ketu shifted to Sagittarius, joining Saturn in this spiritual, fire sign. This 1.5-year transit will last until September 23rd, 2020.
Sagittarius is a highly spiritual fire sign. It aims high, but rarely hits the target because of hesitation to pick a direction.
Rahu in Gemini will create forceful shifts and strong, unpredictable movement. This transit also brings stormy energy and powerful currents, making sweeping, sudden changes.
Creativity and the imagination will be wild and untamed. Imagination can be used as a powerful boon or a dangerous dragon of illusion. The mind will need you to keep it tame. Remember that the mental body is the imaginal. Don’t believe everything you think.
2020 Horoscopes
These Horoscopes will give you general themes for the year to come based on your rising sign. Horoscopes are based on your sidereal, or Jyotish rising sign, not your Western or Tropical sign. There is likely no correlation. You may also use with your sidereal Moon or Sun sign for extra insight.
Aries
Saturn leaves your ninth house of dharma after 2.5 years of transiting through your most auspicious house. Though he brought challenges and questioning of your life purpose, his constriction will now be focused on your career and offering for the coming lengthy cycle.
The 10th house is considered a positive and supportive house as well, so expect support from Saturn with your career and dharmic offerings. This also means honoring the ways of Saturn and being diligent with his requests for sustainability. Be consistent, stay focused, use traditional methods for success and seek outer support.
Ketu continues through your ninth house, while Rahu transits your third until late September. This brings focus to your dharmic path as well as self-expression and courage.
You will need to do some trauma work, around authority figures and spiritual trauma in this cycle.
Taurus
Starting in January, Saturn moves to his own sign, Capricorn, and into your ninth house of dharma—the most auspicious house of the chart. This transit is ideally helping you strengthen your dharmic path, clearing grief, and bringing structure to your soul purpose. But it won’t be without effort on your part.
When Jupiter joins Saturn in your ninth house for three months starting in April, you may notice new resources, tools, and support showing up to help you.
Since Ketu is also transiting the eight house with Jupiter, you can expect even more clearing to take place. Ketu will be forcing awareness and insight that will help you lighten your load, however it might be painful to see so clearly. Be sure you are taking care of your body and staying grounded with daily embodiment practices.
Rahu in your second house, is forcing you to acknowledge deeper levels of nourishment and wealth.
Gemini
As Rahu continues through your first house, you are learning about yourself in all kinds of new ways. Who are you? Who are you becoming? Strengthen your sense of self and try not to get caught in the snare of big worldly desires that are all-consuming. Trust that this new sense of self will be worth it in the long run.
Jupiter in your seventh house is helping you see more clearly what you need and what feels helpful. Pay attention to your own body wisdom—particularly your pelvis.
When Jupiter dips into your eighth house, he joins Saturn here briefly for three months. This is a vulnerable time for you. Honor your depths and the powerful, inner transformation taking place.
For the next 2.5 years, Saturn will be in your eighth house. A deep purging of grief is taking place in this cycle so anything that has not previously been honored or acknowledged will be surfacing now to ask for release. Saturn asks you to face your own vulnerability and darkness.
Cancer
The good news is that as Jupiter transits your sixth house for the majority of the year, he is in his own sign which offers strength and balance. The sixth house, however, tends to bring some challenges to the surface, so pay attention to obstacles and financial issues that need more knowledge and wisdom.

Leo
The next 2.5 years are vital for your healing path. Saturn will be in his own sign of Capricorn in your sixth house. Conflicts, challenges, finances, and health will be subjected to some hardships. Remember that Saturn ultimately wants you to clear and release the grief and pain that you have not been willing to let go of.
Starting in April, Jupiter arrives in your sixth house, joining Saturn here for three months. You may gather new support and resources, but be sure they are reputable.
For most of this year, Jupiter transits your fifth house of playfulness, children, past life credit, and solar plexus. He is trying to help you strengthen your sense of power and self-trust, your gut intelligence. Are you paying attention?
Ketu is conjunct Jupiter in Sagittarius this year as well which may intensify the self-doubt and uncertainty on your path right now. This is a test in many ways. A test of your strength, helping you carve out a path that is more in alignment with who you truly are.
Virgo
It’s been challenging this past year to find home and deepen your tap root, but some of this is shifting now as Saturn moves to your fifth house for the next 2.5 years. This transit requires a new relationship with your inner power, inner child, and sense of playfulness.
Most of this year, Jupiter transits your fourth house of heart, home, and mother with Ketu. A heart clearing process is taking place, supporting emotional body release, heart expansion, and spiritual wisdom. The more you can make space in your heart for love, the more connection and intimacy will be felt in your relationships.
Ketu is trying to help you clear away the past grief, while opening up your heart space to a new way of feeling. Your drive to succeed on a material level is getting in the way of your ability to listen to your heart. What is this overdrive to achieve worldly success? Is this truly what your heart longs for? Or is it just a distraction from what truly matters?
Libra
Jupiter navigates your third house in his own sign with Ketu most of the year. This brings expansion and change with your self-expression and artistry—particularly with your hands. Rahu in your ninth house of dharma brings challenges with your life purpose so be wary of extremes, authority figures, and lack of self-trust.
Saturn in your fourth house of home, heart, land, and mother brings some constriction in these areas so be mindful of your emotional body for the coming 2.5 years. As Saturn moves through your fourth house, he also impacts your 10th house of career and your offering to the world. You may notice more structure is needed with your offerings and how you share in the world.

When Jupiter enters your second house for a few months starting in April, watch your words and your money. Nourishment overall may need more of your focus at this time. You need to do some inner work and clear away the past, in order to make space for more of what you need.

As the year closes, Ketu moves to your 12th house and Rahu to your sixth house. Clarify your boundaries and be willing to face challenges directly. Speak your truth and focus on your deeper needs and desires.
Capricorn
