We live in a world of instant gratification.
We press the buy now button, and literally anything can be delivered to our doorstep within a day, if not within minutes.
Many people regard this change of expectation as something negative—today, let’s take a look at the brighter side and see how you can achieve instant gratification, and instant happiness, by doing one thing (or do all three if you’re up for it.)
1) Buy a Meal for Someone Else.
There are many people out there who are less fortunate than we are. We may not be able to turn their lives around completely in a day, but what we can do is take one step in the right direction—just be nice. Tiny gestures can go a long way. Today, I would like to challenge you to go outside and treat someone less fortunate than yourself for a meal. They don’t necessarily need to be homeless. They could be without family; on their last dime, and can’t afford a meal. If this is the case, and you see this happening in front of you, offer to purchase a meal for them.
Bonus (f you have it): give them something extra so they will be able to eat for the next upcoming days. If you have the funds to do this for the next 30 days, more power to you!
If not, pick at least one to two days, each week, for the next month, and offer to buy a meal for someone—whether they are in line with you, or someone less fortunate than you.
We truly do not know what people are going through. Someone can look like they have it all together on the outside, but that may not be the case on the inside. Helping others releases oxytocin, serotonin, and dopamine in our brains. These hormones will positively affect and boost your mood instantly.
2) Do Something That Promotes Self-Care
Our days can be busy, and we can quickly forget to take care of ourselves—which doesn’t serve anyone. If your cup isn’t full, you aren’t able to fill up someone else’s cup…at least not for a sustainable amount of time.
With this challenge, I would like you to do something that you consider self-care. It doesn’t matter what it is, you define it. I want you to spend the next 30 days tending to you. Every day. Journal about it if you would like, and know that your definition of self-care is what matters the most.
This could be simply going for a walk on the beach first thing in the morning, getting a massage, reading a book, getting your nails done, ordering take away, you name it. For more inspiration, you could go online and search on Pinterest for more example and find a 30-day self-care challenge which suits your taste.
The benefits you will get out of doing this challenge, just to name a few, will be better productivity, improved resistance to disease, a better ability to deal with stress and enhanced self-esteem.
If you are up for it, you can post it on social media to see if any of your friends or family members are interested in joining you for this challenge. Let us know what you are up to and use the hashtag #challengeahero.
3) Solo Dance Party
Solo dance parties are super fun. Especially when there is no one around – you are able to just let loose and do your thing. For the next 30 days, schedule a solo dance party, at home, for about 5-10 minutes.
You can do it before you go to bed or when you wake up to get ready for work. Schedule it whenever you see fit. Don’t think twice about doing it.
Put on your favorite album or song and just go for it. If you’d like, record yourself and see how you move and see the expressions on your face. If you are bold, post it to one of your social media platforms. It’s not necessary but if you want to show family and friends your playful side, why not!
If you are really bold and daring, go live on Facebook or Instagram and get to moving. However you want to do this challenge, it is all up to you. Again, dancing brings countless benefits with it, such as improving strength, increasing endurance, becoming more flexible, it improves the sense of wellbeing, you will become more confident and it reduces tension.
Let us know how you felt and what song you felt most alive dancing to during this challenge using the hashtag #challengeahero.
Follow these three challenges just for one day only, and you will be hit with an instant happiness rush. But hey, why not try and maximize it to 30 days? That way you have a greater chance to turn it into a habit and make it part of your daily routine.
I can’t wait to read everyone’s experience.
