I promise not to cough on you ~ just please do not be afraid

Oh, wow. The coronavirus. I’m writing this almost as much for me as for anyone else reading this.

First of all, we should start with the fact that Corona beer should sue all governments and major news corporations for using it’s name to publicize this thing. If so, I will become it’s cover girl free of charge just out of happiness that someone is f*cking over mass media. This is not a cool beer on a warm beach situation and is not being correctly named. Definitely not cool!

This is a very lonely time for some. The isolation of our society has been magnified; with community spaces and events shutting down. The normal things that people do to stay sane are being limited, and this thing has the world up in arms. Countries quarantined, schools shut down, international travel restrictions, going on the internet by itself is a nightmare; let alone navigating the thoughts of other people. Ive felt  veryalone at times. My personal neurotic scare is of there being a state-wide quarantine in the U.S. where we’re not able to travel to other states and where I wouldn’t be able to visit my friends or family until this thing is shut down. What would that look like? Would I try to cross the border of a state in my car and get arrested? Would I tell the police officer that I was sad and wanted to see my family/boyfriend and would he not let me across a state border to see my loved ones? Would I not be permitted to see the people I care about? Would it be another rule that I would have to pretend to agree with because I cannot change?

This is bringing up a lot of uncomfortable and also frightening questions about privilege and where the power lands in our country. The suggestion of basic, normal freedoms being taken away causes my mind to spin as I drive home from the climbing gym. Who will survive? If this thing gets really bad ~ who are the people who will survive?

So what I have to say is, and what I would like to say is ~ stick together. We need to stay strong right now to stand against (or at least) freak out, the powers at be. They are probably very happy that people are scared. It gives them reassurance that they are in control of the masses. Don’t let it stay that way. Be fearless; when people are more scared they are vulnerable. So don’t be afraid. Know that despite the fact that there is fear in the air and a virus that we don’t know that much about floating around ~ half the game is still mental. You are still human. A human who holds mysterious gifts inside of them and who is a breathing pulsating part of this messy planet. You still have this breathe and this life to live whether or not so many people are choosing fear.

This message is for you, out there, who feels alone at this time. Who feels like no one cares about you. Someone cares about you. I promise. We do. We all do. And we are waiting for you when this scary awful time is over. We are here during this scary offer time, to cough on you with all of our love. You belong to this place. This planet. This world.

You are not alone.
