In a Time of Toilet-Paper Hoarders, Take a Step for Positive Change

One thing that can happen when we are scared and anxious, and when we go into freaking-out mode, is that we can become unhealthily self-interested.  This is a walking meditation to help you remember to be self-interested in a healthy positive way.

I stumbled upon the kernel of it when reading Thich Nhat Hanh but it has unfolded in its own way inside me and will unfold in its own way inside you. 

This walking meditation will help you remember that you are just one part of one very big thing.  And, not only does the world around you have an effect on you, but you have an effect on the entire world around you, whether or not you are aware of it, and whether or not you were planning on doing so.

So with this walking meditation, first take a moment and get a nice sense of feeling your feet on the ground.  And then on your own time and in your own way, take a walk. 

But while you walk, think of each step as the Emperor putting his seal on a piece of paper.  That part is the Thich Nhat Hanh. Just take a few steps with that notion in mind, go for it.

How did that feel for you?  Did it feel very noble and magnificent and sure and kind of like you’re blessing the ground?  Or did it feel different?  All answers are correct. 

Take a few more steps, and as you walk, each step kissing the ground like the emperor’s seal, realise that every step you take, that energy is going into the ground and into the world around you.  So that means that if you take a step in anger, you’re creating that energy and it’s going to vibrate out into the world. And if you take an amazing emperor step, that energy is also going to vibrate out into the world around you.

So see if you can take an entire five-minute walk with every single step being like the emperor sealing the paper.  And then take a few more. And see how that makes you feel.

And see how that changes your relationship with the world around you, and makes you realise that the world around you and the world within you are parts of the same thing.
