5 Home Beauty Treatments You Can do Yourself

Who does love heading to the spa for a facial or pedicure. However, beauty treatments are not just for relaxation and pampering. From acne scars to dry, flaky skin, there are many symptoms and conditions that you can address with beauty treatments.

It may not be possible to make it to the spa at the moment, however luckily you don’t have to. Here are 5 at-home beauty treatments you can do yourself, many using common ingredients that you can find around the house.

  1. Hair Gloss

If your hair colour is fading, you can make it last longer without a trip to the hairdresser by applying a hair gloss. These treatments enhance the hair’s tone and refresh its colour, keeping it vibrant for longer. Hair gloss used to be thought of as a strictly in-salon treatment, but this is now something you can do for yourself at home thanks to at-home products that are now available.

Buy an at-home hair gloss treatments and work it into clean, wet hair to achieve the treatment. Look for products that contain ingredients like argan oil and camellia oil, an ancient ingredient long used by Japanese geishas as it is full of protein that penetrates the hair follicle, improving hair quality from the inside out.

  1. Facial

Giving yourself a facial is one of the simplest and most effective beauty treatments you can do at home. You can make your own face mask from ingredients you probably already have in your house. You can make an oat and honey mask, for example, which soothes tired skin and makes it look more youthful. To make the mask, all you need is oats and honey, mixed with hot water, and a few drops of optional lavender oil and jojoba or almond oil.

You can boost your facial with techniques that used to be reserved for high-end spas with some tools that you can buy and use at home. For example you can get a gua sha tool in a material like rose quartz or blue sodalite to increase blood flow and ease inflammation. You can also use a jade roller to stimulate blood flow in the face.

  1. Foot Spa

Treating your feed to a spa will not only revitalise your precious feet, but also relax your heart and lift your soul. Warm water helps to relieve pain and tension in the feet, and relaxes the muscles, tendons and joints. It also helps to increase blood flow, while essential oils can help with pain relief and relaxation.

Make your own Balinese-inspired foot bath by taking a large basin and layering the bottom with smooth stones. Then fill the basin with warm water and a few drops of an aromatic essential oil such as jasmine or eucalyptus oil. If you want a real Bali experience, float some tropical flowers on the top of the bath, and finish by rubbing some coconut oil into your feet following the bath to moisturise.

  1. Self Tanning

Stuck inside but want a warm glow that looks like you just got back from two weeks in the Caribbean? This is something you can easily achieve by giving yourself an artificial, natural-looking tan at home. Self-tanning lotions have been around for a while, but it used to be that these would produce a uneven, streaky finish that would all too often come off on your furniture.

Now, however, there are foaming self-tanning products that are a huge improvement and will create an effortless, natural-looking tan. Look for a water-based tanning mousse that you can apply evenly to the skin and then rinse off afterwards. This type of tanner also works faster than the old self-tanning lotions.

  1. Teeth Whitening

Who doesn’t want to have stunning, pearly white teeth? Teeth whitening may seem like a complicated treatment to do yourself, but it is actually fairly simple and perfectly safe, as long as they don’t contain more than 10% hydrogen peroxide. All you need to do is buy some whitening strips, and follow the directions. There are different types of whitening strips: the basic strips are sufficient to brighten most teeth, though the kits that use special light are best if you are trying to shift stubborn coffee stains or similar. The hardest part of the process is not talking while you wait for the strips to work!

If you don’t have access to whitening strips, you can create your own mild tooth whitener using kitchen ingredients. Baking soda can actually be used to whiten your teeth: before brushing your teeth in the evening, brush your teeth with simple, common baking soda. Then brush your teeth with toothpaste as normal.
