Hey ele-friends,
I have taken to starting a photo essay documenting the Williamsburg-ish / Bushwick-ish sections of my newly adopted city of Brooklyn, and it will be updated daily. I’m currently on Day 10, so visit my site every day until 10/6 for a new one!
Here it is, my new photo essay blog: 30 Days (and nights) in Brooklyn.

Williamsburg/Bushwick and the surrounding area is a rad place waist deep in gentrification, so you’re still able to find an authentic Mexican Tortilleria, but also able to cruise down to a place like Roberta’s (pictured above) where they serve amazing wood-fired pizza, local beer, and grow tomatoes on their rooftop with funding by none other than Alice Waters. Our editor, Waylon Lewis, testifies to one of Williamsburg’s other eco-foodie must-stops, Diner, in this post from a while back.
I’ve always been a fan of photo essays, but photo blogs always rained on my parade because of the low resolution and bland colors that transfer to the web. So, I set out to make a photo essay blog with beautiful big black & white photos. You’ll notice the format is much larger than a blog, and made for monitors 15″ or larger. With the style of images, I really felt displaying them any smaller would be a waste… and I’m really happy with the large format.
I hope you enjoy looking at these photos as much as I enjoyed crafting them. Keep checking in to the site until 10/6… every day awaits a new surprise… even to me, as I discover new moments that are captured only once then drift away into time. It is our moments that we must be aware of, that we need to be grateful for… because once they’re gone, they’re gone. I hope you’re stopping on the street today to look around and enjoy the moment and be grateful, just as I’m trying to do the same.
