The sad truth is that, even with all of our health-food crazes and smoothie bowls and kale, most of us don’t get all the nutrients we need from our diet alone.

I myself am a health-conscious, home-cooking, unprocessed food-consuming vegetarian, and I know I still don’t get everything I need from my food.

It would help if we could all eat superfoods all the time—but with most of our schedules, habits, budgets, and preferences, that’s damn near impossible.

So, we have to find another way.

Think Remedy is trying to do just that.

They’re a company that’s created an easy, accessible way for people to get all of the health goodness of superfoods—without actually needing to go to all the work of buying and cooking, or otherwise prepping, them. Or, in their words:

“Life, with all of its ups and downs, inhibits our ability to acquire whole superfoods from their source. Think Remedy makes a valiant effort to provide supplements that possess the benefits of superfoods.”

Think Remedy’s offerings are all-natural, well-thought-out, and beneficial. But you don’t need to take me at my word. And, really, we should all be finding out what any supplement will do for our bodies before we start actually putting it into our bodies.

So, without further ado, here are four superfood supplements that can do us all some serious good:

Aged Beet Root

The first question I had about this supplement was, Why would you ever want to age a beet? Which, I might add, is a pretty fair question. But, as it turns out, there’s a good reason for it. Fresh beets have a fairly high sugar content. Fermenting the beets totally eliminates the sugar content, so you get all of the beety health benefits without the hit of sugar that goes along with it.

What I had never heard before is that beets contain high amounts of nitrates, which can give us a boost of energy—so beets can actually serve as a substitute for caffeine. In addition to that, nitrates can cause blood vessels to dilate, which causes blood pressure to decrease. Consistently consuming beets can actually reduce our blood pressure in the long-term. If all that wasn’t enough, they also have anti-inflammatory properties and can improve our digestive health.

Think Remedy’s Aged Beet Root supplement has all of the above benefits, and it also:

>> Helps supports liver function

>> Helps boost stamina during physical activity

>> Helps detoxify the body

>> And offers a rich source of valuable phytonutrients

Aged Black Garlic

The benefits of garlic are almost too many to mention.

To start, most of us are familiar with one of the most established and widely known benefits of garlic: its ability to help soothe digestion, tummy problems, and nausea. As a woman, I know this can be particularly helpful when my period rolls around. Really, anything that helps to soothe the annoying, painful, stress-inducing period-related symptoms is my friend.

Garlic has also been used for thousands of years for its healthy heart benefits. There are several reasons for this, but one is that garlic can help our body regulate optimal blood pressure.

One lesser known benefit of garlic is that it may play a role in preventing onset and/or development of prostate cancer:

“A study reported in 2013 demonstrated that ginger phytochemicals work synergistically to inhibit the proliferation of human prostate cancer cells. A 2012 study became the first report to clearly demonstrate the anticancer activity of orally taken, whole ginger extract for the therapeutic management of prostate cancer.”

There are multiple reasons why Think Remedy offers Aged Black Garlic in particular—and why it would benefit us all to start taking it. One such reason is its potential for supporting our immune health—and acting as nature’s ready-made antibiotic:

“Fermenting garlic converts allicin, the main healthy component of garlic, into a stable and potent antioxidant, S-Allyl-Cysteine (SAC). SAC has twice the antioxidant capacity and is proven to be absorbed better than allicin. Some benefits of SAC include strengthening the immune system, improvement of cardiovascular health, and assisting in regulating blood pressure.”

Aged black garlic also helps to reduce inflammation in the body, including the brain, so it can play a role in preventing neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

Fermented garlic can actually provide us with more health benefits than fresh garlic, and it can contain as much as twice the antioxidant capacity.

Aged Turmeric Root

Turmeric is another one of those superfoods that is almost too good to be true. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are two of its best, biggest benefits—and those alone have led what seems like the entire internet become obsessed with turmeric over the last couple of years.

But there’s even more to turmeric—and particularly to Aged Turmeric Root.

Immune support is one benefit of turmeric that is actually enhanced through fermentation:

“Turmeric, which contains curcumin, has been shown to be a potent immunomodulatory agent that can modulate the activation of T cells, B cells, macrophages, neutrophils, natural killer cells, and dendritic cells. Further, curcuminoids, the main component of turmeric which gives it its benefits, are more easily absorbed in the body by fermenting turmeric.”

This enhanced absorption of curcuminoids via fermentation is also helpful when it comes to combatting allergies. The increased absorption gives the turmeric an improved ability to help out the body with the detoxification processes needed to reduce the negative effects of an allergic response.

Finally, the physical body isn’t actually the only part of our health that can benefit from regular turmeric ingestion. Turmeric is a natural mood enhancer and is thought to help prevent and treat depression.

Fresh Water Algae

While algae might not be the first thing to come to mind when we think about supplements to take, it has some surprising benefits that can make it pretty worthwhile.

Think Remedy’s Fresh Water Algae supplement contains two kinds of algae: chlorella and spirulina.

Chlorella is packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It can help with detoxification, immune function, and inflammation. Research has found that it may also help to improve cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels.

Much like chlorella, spirulina is rich in nutrients. It contains high amounts of protein, calcium, potassium, niacin, B vitamins, iron, and magnesium. Spirulina has many of the same benefits as chlorella. Additionally, there is some evidence that it can reduce the development of plaque in arterial walls and counteract anemia.

Think Remedy’s Fresh Water Algae supplement helps to:

>> Detoxify the body

>> Decrease harmful bacteria in the gut

>> Support healthy hormonal function

>> Promote cardiovascular health

There is a wide variety of benefits to taking algae—and, no doubt, more to be discovered and researched. It’s also one of the most sustainable and eco-friendly foods out there—and, according to Nicole Avena, Ph.D, “acre for acre, harvested algae produces much higher protein levels than beef, milk, wheat, and soy.” Bottom line is that there are lots of reasons to supplement with it—and no reasons not to.
