Old reason to leave GoDaddy. New reason to leave GoDaddy.
Update: Headfake. Godaddy has not withdrawn official support of SOPA. Let’s leave ’em.
“Fighting online piracy is of the utmost importance, which is why Go Daddy has been working to help craft revisions to this legislation – but we can clearly do better,” Warren Adelman, Go Daddy’s newly appointed CEO, said. “It’s very important that all Internet stakeholders work together on this. Getting it right is worth the wait. Go Daddy will support it when and if the Internet community supports it.”
In other words, boycotts do make a difference (but keep an eye on GoDaddy…they still hope to support SOPA, as soon as you get on board!)
Will December 29th be Dump GoDaddy Day?
Pop quiz:
If the success of your small business depends on you having an innovative online presence, do you want your web host to be someone fighting against censorship and fighting to protect your right to free speech?
…or do you want this guy?
It’s scary enough to see legislation like SOPA in the first place; scarier still to see it being supported by companies that you would expect to lead the rallying cry against internet censorship.
Best commentary from Reddit:
definitely evil – I read their statement here:
} implying people who bypass mainstream DNS “get what they deserve”
} implying tech engineers “are scaremongering and fiefdom-building”
} implying nations who oppose SOPA are “un democratic” or “oppressive”
} implying this bill is about “protecting American jobs”
Biggest load of crap I have ever read. Thankful I host my own domains right now.
While his elephant hunting won’t affect your business, the money and energy he is funneling in support of SOPA will.
