I walked to the post office after I found out that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the 2020 election.
I had butterflies in my stomach, but I also held my chest up high. A f*cking woman is in the White House! I don’t know how to put into words or describe the feeling of seeing a woman in a place of power—Vice President. Second-in-command. Is this how men have felt all along: a sense of security, purpose, voice, and command?
Not only is she the first female vice president, she is the first Black vice president and first Asian American VP. Born in Oakland, California to a family of immigrants, a mother from India and father from Jamaica—her name will be in history books.
She’s been critical of Biden’s past policies, I’m sure she’ll keep him on his toes, and she’s not afraid to speak her mind—a fierce voice this country has been waiting for to make its presence in the White House.
It seems a small triumph, but a triumph nonetheless, for the Black Lives Matter movement, a promise for a better future for our Black Americans, a glimmer of hope for immigrant families. A promise of better times ahead for the LGBTQ+ community. She is a force of kindness that our country needs, I mean look at this sweet video of her calling Biden after the news:
