Ron Paul to Newt Gingrich: “And I Went.”

While I love Ron Paul, I couldn’t quite vote for him.

But I’d vote for him in a second over the rest of the field, Huntsman included. And while I appreciate Newt in debates—he’s a joy to watch—the man is seems to be strong in the ego department, but weak in values and integrity.

Commentary via Reddit:

Gingrich said he didn’t go to war because he had a child. This man married 3 times, divorced first wife while she was in the hospital with cancer, failed to pay adequate child support, and cheated on his second wife while trying to impeach Clinton.

Hiding behind a family he later broke up and betrayed is the lowest form of hypocrisy.

Excerpt:

Paul was criticizing so-called “chickenhawks,” or politicians who are hawkish about going to war but personally shirked the opportunity to serve in the U.S. military.

“I think people who don’t serve when they could and they get three or four or even five deferments have no right to send our kids off to war,” said Paul in a clear reference to Gingrich.

Gingrich responded: “I was married with a child.”

To which Paul famously shot back: “When I was drafted, I was married and had two kids, and I went.”

Paul finished his sentence with pursed lips and a steely gaze. The crowd was silent for a moment. Then, it broke out in applause.
