I was sick and tired of the 90s jacuzzi platform surround in our main bedroom ensuite. It had been 5 years since we moved into our 1990s home. While most of the renovations had been complete, every time I looked at the wasted space in the ensuite I wanted a change. So we got ready to demo and lined up the contractors for the work we couldn’t do alone. After the hard work of busting out that jacuzzi tub I took a small broom and dustpan to clean up debris, only to find myself plunging through the floor. This is how your spiritual transformation is like a home renovation project.

1. You begin not liking what you see, and so you decide you want a change.

Just like I was sick and tired of looking at my jacuzzi tub and platform surround, dreaming of a beautiful and spacious bathroom, so too have I stood in the mirror facing my shadow and ready to meet it head on and create change. Holding this vision of something fresh, pure and full of light.

2. The breakdown is inevitably messier than you anticipate, and almost always leads to a breakthrough.

After the demo of the jacuzzi, there was a hole in the subfloor cut out and covered with a flipped over Cheerio box. With the debris covering it, I couldn’t see this hole and I went very com mediately straight through the floor and busting out the ceiling below me. In any transformation, I have this idea of what I am unearthing and uncovering, but every single time, that debris loosens up this other part of me that I need to dive down that hole to take a closer look at the root of the problem.

3. While dismantling one issue, others will come to the forefront.

After falling through the ceiling, recognizing I was indeed ok, and having a laugh that I quite literally fell through the floor, we realized we had more issues that we had planned or bargained for. We now had to repair the ceiling of the room below, and in order to do so now scrape the entire ceiling back, repair and refinish. In any period of transformation, I end up unearthing another layer or aspect of self than I thought I was going to that requires further healing and growth before I am able to move on to the initial catalyst for the change.

4.  Not everything goes smoothly or on your desired timeline.

We had shower bases with the wrong size glass, missing receipts, electrical that had to be rewired through the attic, and it took almost double the time than we thought. So too is your transformation. There will be glitches and bumps along the way, it will not go on your timeline, but the timeline that the universe has in mind for you.

5.  You sometimes need to enlist the experts to help you along the way.

There’s much that we were able to do on our own, but definitely not everything like the plumbing. That we hired an expert. So too on your transformational journey will you sometimes require assistance along the way. There are many healers, coaches and experts who’ve walked through this transformational path time and time again who can give you a fresh lens and assistance as you navigate through.

6.  Despite all the challenges it’s worth it!

Despite the bumps and challenges, it’s always worth it in the end! Both the renovation and the upgrade in the spiritual transformation. You’ll never regret the hard work you put into yourself to deepen your connection and growth!
