How to Know When It May Be Time to Switch Your Career

There are times in some individuals’ lives when they need a change of pace. For some, this means they have a desire to pursue an entirely new career. Restarting your education well into your adulthood goes against the typical expectations Americans have for themselves. However, following your calling is one of the most important things you can do in life. If you feel an inkling to switch up your life in this way, it might be time to pursue that.

But how can you tell whether this is something you are actually called to do or if it’s just a matter of you growing bored in your current position? Continue reading to discover how to know when it may be time to switch your career.

Constantly Complaining About Work

It is only natural to complain about work from time to time. But if you find yourself in a constant state of dissatisfaction with your job and don’t see it going away any time soon, it may be time to switch up your career. Work gets tough at times, but it shouldn’t be making you get in a fuss every single day.

Disinterested in Your Job and Potential Opportunities

If your field is becoming monotonous to you, it might be time to switch careers. Especially if you are not even excited about potential promotions or other career opportunities within your industry, you might want to consider pursuing something you are more passionate about. When you decide on what that subject is, you will find yourself becoming excited about work again.

Make Up Constant Excuses for Missing Work

Along the same lines as growing disinterested in work, making up constant excuses to miss work is another sign you might need a career change. It is normal to have to miss work at certain points, especially if you are sick. However, if you’re lying or choosing to stay home for no reason, this will come across as unprofessional and make you into a lazy worker. This is never a good sign in your career. If you find yourself doing this, it may be time to switch gears.

People Keep Telling You to Change Your Career

If your personal network continues pointing out talents of yours and asking why you don’t pursue a career in an industry you are more passionate about, then you might want to take their words into consideration. Whether you consider it a sign from God or a sign from the universe, continually being told you should pursue a career in a different industry might be the motivating factor you need to take the leap.

It’s always going to be a bit frightening to make this change at first, especially if it requires going back to college. However, you must ask yourself whether you’d rather stay in a stagnant career that dampens your mood or pursue something with a bit of risk that reaps a great reward and makes you happy. More times than not, it is better to go with the latter choice.
