A Brief Guide to Energetic Hygiene & 21 Signs your Energy Needs a Bath.

*Editor’s Note: Elephant is not your doctor or hospital. Our lawyers would say “this website is not designed to, and should not be construed to provide medical advice, professional diagnosis, opinion, or treatment to you or any other individual, and is not intended as a substitute for medical or professional care and treatment. Always consult a health professional before trying out new home therapies or changing your diet.” But we can’t afford lawyers, and you knew all that.

Everything is energy.

There are live, animated objects that we can touch and see physical energy taking shape, and then there are fields around us that are made up of subtle energy we can feel and sense.

As the quote widely (but incorrectly) attributed to Albert Einstein goes, “Everything is energy, and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

All energy moves and vibrates, from physical objects to emotions and even our bodies. We are multidimensional beings within various, complex energetic interactions continually taking place.

The rate of vibration is when energy moves from Point A to Point B. “Lower” emotions and energetic clutter and debris hinder the path, causing slow-moving energy.

Fast-moving energy provides lighter, happier feelings and experiences. Slow-moving energy brings the opposite. Let’s play with it…

Take a moment to think about the most beautiful, delightful, enjoyable place you know.

Right now.

Absorb every detail and notice where the mind drifts to; the place, light, people, furniture, or nature, and all the details that appear.

My guess is it’s a clean, gorgeous, clear space, with little clutter or debris—a place that feels “energetically clean,” if you will.

This is energetic hygiene at play: we typically desire experiences that are fast-moving, energetically speaking.

However, it can be easy for slower-moving energies like clutter in our home, a disconnect with Spirit and ourselves, or emotions such as anger, fear, or sadness, to take over. It happens so quickly; we often don’t even realize what is going on. And, unless we are mindful, we may never realize it.

Energetic hygiene is a process we can invoke to become aware of our energy field. Just as we feel when we clean anything else (our bodies, cars, homes) and feel better, energetic hygiene tends to leave us feeling refreshed and uplifted.

Before we get into how to clean your energy field, it’s essential to look out for the signs that your energy could use a shower.

The foundation of my practice is based on the “Cosmic Trinity,” which says our body-mind, connection with Spirit, and home all need equal attention and love. That said, here are some common symptoms to look out for in each area—ones I see often when addressing energetic hygiene with clients.

The Home:

1. Packages and people intended for your home go to the wrong home

2. Pets, plants, or other live beings keep dying in the home

3. Dishes and laundry are piling up without a care

4. Clutter everywhere

The Body:

5. Bad breath = bad spirit

6. Aches, pain, and unfamiliar discord

7. Unusual acne or tough patches of skin on the face

8. Insomnia or sleep disruptions

9. Sore shoulders and neck for unknown reason (especially at the back of the neck)

The Mind:

10. Playing the martyr or the victim

11. Complaining excessively

12. Gossiping

13. Pointing fingers and blaming everyone else

14. Being surrounded by negative friends

15. Feeling scattered, unbalanced, and continually dropping things

16. Feelings of exhaustion and overwhelm

Connection with Spirit:

17. Looking for answers outside of Self

18. Questioning God or reason for living

19. Excessively consulting divination tools like Tarot, with the same question over and over

20. Meditation feels forced

21. Prayer being used continually in a “worry” or “directional” way (For example, “Please help with _____” or “I need _______,” versus surrendering all to Spirit)

If you are consistently experiencing the above symptoms, there are a few tools you can try.

For the home: Clean, declutter, and consider clearing your space with Frankincense Myrrh. You can do that with resin over a charcoal tab or by diffusing a high-quality essential oil in the home.

For the body: Take an Epsom salt bath and imagine all of the “slow-vibing” energy of the day, or from other people, just falling right off. Then, shower and brush or sweep the water off the body with both hands. While I also really enjoy receiving energy sessions like Reiki, and I personally do Energy Codes work with others, we must also turn inward. Taking responsibility for the hygiene of our bodies and energy fields speeds up the rate of vibration at play.

For the mind and mindset: Meditate or use binaural beats (which can be found on YouTube, if not prone to seizures). There is a misconception that we have to spend 45-60 minutes in meditation a day. I don’t see it this way. I have found getting in the habit of even devoting 30 seconds to five minutes in the morning is transformative. Be consistent. If a regular meditation or binaural beats practice is already established, explore visualization. Think about the thing that keeps your mind stuck. Then, with your inner eye or knowing, ask yourself, “Where does this live in my body?” Go to that space and imagine using your hands to “pull the slower energy out” of your body. Fill it with light, and feel the difference.

For connection with Spirit: Anything that distracts us from truth and love can create discord with Spirit. I have a practice of dissolving any of those connections. A similar process is referred to as “Cord Cutting.” While the idea of cutting cords is powerful, it is also imperative that energetic cords are not “cut” but dissolved and the roots removed. This is an energetic hygiene practice that anyone can easily do anywhere. If you would like to try this out, I have a free meditation to help you go deeper.

Most importantly, keep it simple and easy.

The last thing any of us needs is to stress over the fact that our “energy fields are not clean,” and then go down a rabbit hole trying to do everything we can to speed up the frequency around us. Unhealthily stressing about anything would be counterproductive.

We can all start small, with simple changes. I can pretty much promise that making a consistent shift with even one small change from the information here will bring higher frequency experiences to your energy field and life.

If you check out the meditation, or if any of this resonated, I’d love to hear from you and connect.

Keep it clean (your energy, that is)! ~ Gina Nicole
