Five years back, a childhood friend of Waylon, Markell Kiefer, asked him to write a play about Chögyam Trungpa, the great Tibetan Buddhist meditation master. He did so. After she added a few scenes and a ton of edits, she directed the play several times to rave reviews in NY society press. Then, a few years ago, she asked Waylon to write one on the Dalai Lama, the great Tibetan Buddhist meditation master. He did so. Thanks to additional finetuning courtesy of some of her fancy playwright friends and the authentic power of Markell’s vision—you know how it is when you see someone doing exactly what they ought to be doing?—the ‘Buddha Prince’ ain’t half-bad.
