Param Pujya Dada Bhagwan, the Enlightened being, advises a positive way to build the positive. He explains: What does positive mean? You do not have to take out anything; you do not have to remove anything, you only have to bring in. Say for instance, we have this drum full of oil and if someone says he wants to empty this oil; then we ask him what he wants to fill inside. He says, ‘I want to fill it with water.’ So we tell him to start pouring water in this; oil will vacate by itself. Likewise, if you want to fill this drum with wheat or anything else, then start pouring that in and all oil will come out of its own.
Generally you empty first and later fill in, but rather start pouring in so all that’s in will come out automatically. It is seen as, ‘This is wheat and this is water’, all due to intellect’s play. But the solution over here is that when you add (i.e. ‘see’) the positive, then the negative will leave its place and come out naturally.
Param Pujya Dadashri states, “That which leaves its place by itself, people are trying to get it out. They try to get rid of ignorance (darkness)…. when will it end then? If you try to empty this ignorance cup by a cup then when will there be light? When will it be morning? Instead, turn the light on.”
Negative mindset yields negative result and a Positive attitude brings positive result
A positive attitude takes us higher up into a higher life-form. To make a good intention, a high intention is a positive effort. Doing so, one progresses towards higher life forms. To make a bad intent is a negative effort because of which one regresses towards lower life forms. And the pure effort is when one becomes the Soul and ‘does’ the effort (by remaining) as the Soul. The effort of Soul means one sees and knows things as they happen, without attachment or hatred towards any person, thing or given situation. This leads to the ultimate liberation.
So, there are three kinds of results:
Spiritually, our very belief of, ‘I am John (please insert your name here)’ is said to be the subtlest egoism.
- Use that egoism positively if you want worldly comforts; do not do anything negative in it.
- If you want only miseries, then maintain a negative ego. And if you want a mixture of happiness and misery, then do positive and negative together.
- But if you want liberation, free yourself from the wrong belief and come into the nature of the Soul.
The whole world revolves around these three statements.
Therefore,
- Have a positive ego to be happy. Positive ego is the ego that does not want to hurt any living being in the slightest degree.
- Negative ego is the cause of unhappiness and misery. If we harbour animosity and enmity towards any person, then it is a negative ego. Negative ego is a bad thing. The moment we look to hurt someone, we are inviting hurt for ourselves. Our thinking should be that whatever comes our way, it comes to us because of our own past mistakes, so we will accept it in order to settle our pending karmic account. If we can afford to continue suffering in this worldly life, then we may retaliate with twice the force of negative mindset.
- And if we want liberation from all kinds of sufferings forever, then we shall have to be free from the false projection of Self. The Soul is our real Self and hence to believe that really I am John is a false projection. Self-Realization frees us from
Param Pujya Dadashri, through a very simple and vivid illustration, suggests, “Do what you like. When you give people respect and you know that the consequences of doing so are good, then you can respect them (upon doing away with the negative mindset). It is written in Aptavani One (Dadashri’s first major text on Akram Vignan) that you can project into the world as you would in a step well. If you say ‘You are a thief’ into a well, an echo of ‘You are a thief’ will come back to you from the well. So if you don’t like that echo, then say, ‘You are a king’ and it will come back telling you, ‘You are a king.’
Thus, it’s in our own interest to build a positive attitude in life. Once we are convinced about it, as Param Pujyashri Dadashri mentioned, we just have to fill in positivity. To do this, the easiest way is to live in the company of the Enlightened One and imbibe His valuable teachings into our life. The added advantage of being in His company is, we can easily attain Self-Realization too, with the divine grace of this Enlightened being!!
