It’s 2022, and unfortunately, the COVID pandemic doesn’t look to be ending any time soon. Yes, things are a little safer now that vaccines and booster shots are readily available to most people, but the Omicron variant is still spreading, and it will continue to make travel riskier and more difficult at least for the next few months.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that travel will completely stop in 2022. It just means that you need to take certain safety precautions if you plan to go anywhere.
Same As It Ever Was
For the most part, travel in 2022 is going to look a lot like travel in 2021. Domestic travel will likely be very popular since people will prefer to stay close to home. They will also be more likely to travel by car instead of by plane. It limits the chances that people will encounter someone carrying the virus, and it makes domestic travel a little easier and more likely. If people are going to be going on vacations, they will be more likely to head to a relatively isolated vacation rental instead of a crowded resort. Look for people making bookings on Airbnb or Verbo instead of trips to major tourist destinations.
Staying Safe When Traveling
If you must travel during this pandemic, you can keep yourself safe by taking the following precautions. First of all, stick to road trips if you’re not going very far. You’re far less likely to be exposed to COVID than if you were to sit in a plane full of people for three hours. Second, make sure you get a vaccine and booster shot if you haven’t already. Breakthrough cases do happen with the Omicron variant, but they aren’t very severe in fully vaccinated and boosted individuals. Be ready to show proof of your vaccination and booster shot when necessary. If you don’t want to carry a vaccination card with you at all times, at least take a photo of your card with your phone so you can display it.
Finally, continue to wear a mask in public, even if you’re fully vaccinated. There is no way to fully prevent the spread of COVID, but a mask does help more than people realize. Have at least a few with you wherever you go, and remember to swap them out after a few uses.
