3 parts to healing sexual trauma

Photo by Erik Mclean on Pexels.

When you have experienced sexual assault and violation, frequent inner voices arise with these questions:

  • Why didn’t anyone protect me?
  • What did I do to bring this upon myself?
  • Did I do something wrong?
  • Can I ever trust again?
  • Why did this happen to me?

These shadows are the voices of an inner tumultuous writhing born of despair, grief and betrayal.

It’s where new “realities” are created that can look like this:

  • No one protects me
  • My body invites danger
  • My sexuality is for the use of others
  • There must be something wrong with me

There are 3 parts of the complete healing of these experiences

Part 1 – the body

The somatic experience, the felt senses and the “trauma” of the event becomes lodged in the body and can often manifest in sexually promiscuous behaviour, all the way to a total repression of sexuality. The event can create distortions in desire and how pleasure is sought and experienced; and this in turn can distort emotions, behaviours, actions and relationships

Healing the body … whether flight, fight or freeze is crucial and embodiment practices, somatic healing and the slowing down and reconnecting to the self becomes integral

Part 2 – the mind

The mental experience, being that of the “meaning” attributed to said event/s is equally paramount to full healing. Always Stories are created, about worth, loveability, WHO you are, WHAT you can do, love, expect, experience from yourself and the world around you

Consciousness and mental agility to slip out of the Victim-stream and into Empowerment is the most radical act of transformation.

An ability to distinguish the story from truth becomes critical and in the Age of Victim a hard line to accept.

The claiming of and over identification with Victim ultimately becomes detrimental to healing and life beyond the event. To return to a Person means you must transmute that final identity of Victim to reclaim your life. If not, you’ll forever be defined by that which “happened to you”

Part 3 – the soul

The final Part, part 3 is the Soul Wound and it’s deep sacred portal to your vibrational soul gift, and is where your true magic lays.

With such an extraordinary amount of sexual abuse and distortion on the planet, it’s time to unravel the tightly bound coils of Victim-Perpetrator-Rescuer and dissolve into our own love story of self responsibility.

This is where your power lies.

It’s not easy – but it’s worth the deep journey to full healing.

This is the self-directed (but supported) journey to moving beyond the Victim identity and truly claiming empowered living.

NB: If you have experienced sexual violence or trauma, please go and speak to someone, and get the psychological and emotional support you need to begin your healing journey. These are big themes honey, but I see you. You’ve got this.
