Kacey Musgraves’ cover of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” is Simply Heartbreaking.

I’ve never been a big Elvis fan.

I’ve also never understood the obsession so many people still have with him, almost 45 years after his death.

But there’s no denying the man had talent.

His 1961 hit “Can’t Help Falling in Love” easily falls into my top 10 list of greatest love songs ever.

The lyrics are simple and heartfelt, and the opening chords alone bring tears to my eyes:

“Like a river flows
Surely to the sea
Darling, so it goes
Some things are meant to be
Take my hand
Take my whole life, too
For I can’t help falling in love with you”

Over the years, the song has been covered by numerous artists, including UB40, Chris Issak, Andrea Bocelli, and “American Idol” finalist Hailey Reinhart. About two weeks ago, to coincide with the release of Baz Luhrmann’s biopic about the King, Kacey Musgraves released her own version of this timeless song.

Musgraves’ haunting, ethereal voice combined with the stripped down, piano-only melody make her cover simply heartbreaking:

If you’ve never heard the original, now’s as good a time as any to fall in love with it:

And my all-time favorite version from Kina Grannis, as seen in “Crazy Rich Asians.” (If this entire wedding scene doesn’t make you believe in love, it’s time to visit a doctor and get your heart checked.)
