As a growing human being, I started to think about our defense mechanisms and see similarities between animals who defend themselves and humans. Human bodies are born with no weapon that is connected to them, no pointed stakes that we could use right after we born-buffy is an exception- no needle that is coming out of our butt, even no teeth that we can show to our enemies when we’re frightened. Long story short, completely defenseless and naked. So, with the help of living in the 21st century, usually, we don’t have to defend ourselves physically. But that’s not the good news, cause we have a mind. A mind which is inherited by our ancestors who had to defend themselves physically. No problem.
As smart animals who live in modern cities, as time went on, we built unarmed defense mechanisms in our heads against discrete threats. It can be against our boss whose existence is a threat to us, the test that’s been waiting to be solved, the text that’s been waiting to write, that check-up or doctor appointment we’ve been frightened to go to, or the truths that’s too true for us to face. Those are the discrete threats. And maybe those are the new bear attacks or snake bites of the 21st century. Well, we try to fight against them of course, I guess with our imaginary swords and shields and dressed in armor. I think one of the most used sword kinds is called “avoiding”. When we don’t have enough backup to defend ourselves to certain something, we avoid that something. It’s a defense mechanism, of course, we use that mechanism because, in case of hurting and feeling lost, we avoid that something. It is good I think, until it becomes useless. Well then, we can pick another weapon I guess?
