Four reasons to drink for-here or bring your own mug:
1. Drinking hot water/coffee/tea out of plastic is bad for you. And, worse, single-use plastic (paper coffee to-go cups are lined with…plastic!) is made of toxic fossil fuels.
2. Plastic *is* fueling our climate crisis. And yet we’ve normalized our casual, wasteful, everyday use of something that never goes away.
3. Fossil fuel company continue to make billions off of us while breaking our planet for us and all future generations. They’re aiming to 10x production of plastic to make up for gains in solar and wind over the next decade.
4. Mindfulness. Ritual. Community. There’s nothing like taking the time and care to drink a tea or coffee that has traveled 3,000 miles or far more, been grown by the sun and rain and soil and workers…all for you. So give it the attention it deserves, and…the attention that you deserve. Then something magic happens: appreciation in the present moment. Breath. You come into yourself, and your life, and stop chasing after the habitrail-wheel of speedy everyday rushing that never, truly, leads to joy. A favorite handmade mug, a favorite tumbler…these signify that you’re taking the time and giving the attention to this potentially-wonderful moment in your day. Enjoy your life!
Plastic waste is normalized and only gaining speed here in America, where many cafes are “only” to-go now. Please always ask for a mug, or bring your own…and swim against the stream of waste, toxic pollution, and earth destruction. You’ll inspire others and help turn back the plastic tide.
