Peace is but a Breath Away. {Poem} ~ Cynthia Overgaag

(From Yoga in America:
In the Words of Some of its Most Ardent Teachers
)

What is yoga?

I needed to know
To have confident wisdom
When my students asked me.

So I learned about union
And prana and chi
Chakras and OM
And Patanjali.

What is Yoga?

I am trusted to know
Guiding chants, meditation
And vinyasa flow.

Speaking of koshas and doshas
And Shiva
Relaxing under blankets, while listening to Bija
What is Yoga?
My students tell me.

They trust their own wisdom in bodies set free
They understand Sanskrit, alignment and nadis
And that balance is more than gazing at drishtis.

What is Yoga?

It’s all that you need.

It’s the light . . . it’s the water
It’s the earth . . . it’s the seed.

It’s love, devotion and sweet Namaste
And knowing that peace is but a breath away.
