First Friday Cultures (+ Sculpts) Your Ass – April 2010.

National Guide to First Friday events

art + community + fun + party

Welcome to the second installment of getting fit with Art walks!

Same set up as last time – if you’re interested in fine art, social purveying, and getting that tight lean and sculpted buttocks you’ve always wanted, then you’re in luck! It’s the First Friday fitness system, and you’ll not only burn loads of unwanted calories, but you’ll also get a full serving of pop-culture, hipster madness, and quasi-sophisticate charm.

This month I’m lucky enough to have my own art installation on display at Topo Ranch, so the focus of April’s First Friday venues will be in Boulder, CO. For those of you who want to know about what’s happening in your area, there are links to events all over the country at the bottom of this post.

——————-

1) Topo Ranch – A retail storefront that sells super-soft organic clothing in Boulder and Venice, CA. I’ve got a couple of their shirts, and believe me when I say the “super-soft” line used to promote their goods is NO exaggeration.  I love this little company, as they’ve made it part of their business operations to party like rock stars a couple times a month by hosting receptions for local artists and musicians. This Friday, you can check out my Anatomy & Zoology installation while gyrating to the delicious hip-hop vibes of Soul Daddy & the Blackfyre Band.

When: Friday, April 2, 2010; 5-8pm

Where: 1505 Pearl Street Mall, Suite 103 | 303.440.4242

RSVP: Yes, on Facebook or by Email

2) First Congregational Church – Participates in First Friday every month by providing space for members of their congregation to show and sell their work. This month is a Good Friday spiritual theme, and some of the artist’s represented are: Marcella Ot’alora, Pat Chapman, Annette Coleman, Susan Allman, Bonnie Forbes, Carrie Evans, Danni Bangert, Mary Harrocks, Martie McMane, Caroline Douglas, Cindy Alaimo, Vidya Rae, Caron Ellis, Lisa Nesmith, Jeanne Lounsbury, Cindy Mueller, Marie Perea, Susan Ross, John Waugh, and Susan Albers. Christine Tulis on harp.

When: Friday, April 2, 2010; 6-8pm

Where: 1128 Pine Street | 303.442.1787

RSVP: none required

3) Boulder Arts & Crafts Gallery – First Friday Reception for Theresa Haberkorn, wood prints inspired by nature, and Patrick Ting, contemporary ceramics, integrated tea sets and functional tableware.

When: Friday, April 2, 2010; 6-8pm

Where: 1421 Pearl Street Mall | 303.443.3683

RSVP: none required

Unfortunately, I still have yet to find a centralized database of all the First Friday type events happening around the country, so I’m keeping a regional list going on Elephant. Every month, I’ll update to the best of my abilities, but if I’ve missed an area that you hold near and dear to your heart (NYC is a great example), please send a link we can post to this article.
