Miley Cyrus – The Backyard Sessions – “Jolene”
~
Holy Sh*t that does it. I’m a Miley Cyrus fan.
She did this. That was beautiful.
She did this. That was awesome, gutsy, right on, surprising…and I applauded it.
She said this—right on, sister.
But, still, she’s famous for god-knows-what...a famous daddy? And like say Taylor Swift or Bieber or those Disney kids I never gave her a second thought.
Then (see below) she sang one of my favorite songs ever.
…All these versions are better.
But hers is pretty. Damn. Good. Only criticism? Apparently this was recorded in the studio. Would be great to see something rough and live like this, by Mumford, in a book shop (see way below), or this, by Macklemore, in the Tiny Desk space.
The “Backyard Sessions” took place earlier this summer when Miley brought her band together to perform some of her favorite songs. The last in the series is “Jolene”. Checkout the NEW MileyCyrus.com for more!
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I’m begging of you please don’t take my man
Jolene, jolene, jolene, jolene
Please don’t take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your skin is soft like summer rain
And I cannot compete with you, Jolene…Jolene is a Dolly Parton cover
Featuring: Jamie Arentzen(Guitar), Jaco Curaco(Guitar), Paul Hager (Sound Engineer), Filmed and edited by: Kevin & Rebecca Joelson
The Mumford Bookshop sessions—actually recorded in a bookshop, rough, wonderful for it…forget the polish and canned perfection of the studio once in awhile and show us your heart.
