Hiya Elephants!
My name is Kelsi, and I’m a new *official* blogger for EJ. Woohoo!
You might know me from a few articles I’ve written for ele over the past year… like my experience from last year’s Telluride Yoga Fest, or my thoughts on Ski Karma or you might know me from my snarky review of Jared Diamond.
I am so excited to be here! I’ve loved elephant for years. I have to admit, I miss the paper issue days big-time. I still reread paper issues I’ve horded… eek! I’m not very good at detachment, I guess.
Anyways! A little bit about myself:
I graduated from CU Boulder in Spring 2009 with one degree in Geography and one in Anthropology, which means, I really like studying people. My focus for those two degrees was in Tourism and Travel studies. I grew up/ currently live in a tourist destination, so it seemed like a pretty natural fit for me to study the big T. I love school, and I’m (hopefully) headed to grad school this fall for a Master’s program (for Tourism) at Wageningen University in the Netherlands.
Besides geeking out about travel, I like to snowboard, ride my ancient road bike, and practice yoga. I have practiced a few styles, and while I don’t have a favorite, it is definitely safe to say, I don’t like Bikram. I figure, I’m 22 now, and I plan on practicing for the rest of my life; so I just practice what I like, when I like. My feelings of yoga follow a sort of “post-modern” line of thought, I do it because it makes me feel good. Although, this might be a reflection of my commitment issues and lack of discipline.
I digress. A lot. Most of what I write about begins as some kind of tangent from a previous line of thought.
My favorite day of the week is Sunday. I suppose this feeling might be rooted in my semi-Christian bringing up. However, now Sunday is a little less religious and a little more relaxed. It’s a day for going out to breakfast (my favorite) and spending time reading the newspaper or a good book (I’m currently reading The Surrendered by Chang-Rae Lee).
I hope you all enjoy your Sundays this weekend.
Take it easy.
