“You bewilder us with your grace.” ~ Rumi
We prepared to fling ourselves to the ground in despair as both our teenage daughters readied themselves to leave, one for college and one to a Performing Arts school. My husband, who never cries, would breathe deeply and look awfully serious when we discussed the impending trip to New York, to Santa Fe.
We sat together, often, in the magical light that belongs to Northern New Mexico’s evenings. We reminisced about their childhoods to the backdrop of hummingbirds trilling through our feeders and flowers. We waited and savored.
And they’ve flown.
And you know what? We’ve grown closer than we even knew was possible. We’ve all found our wings. Together.
