Time for a little vaykay? Deux Fm’s Eco Bikini.

It’s summertime—that means water, sun and sunblock. It’s wintertime—that means it’s time to escape, if you got the dough, to Me-hee-co or some other summery clime. Either way, that means swim trunks (I wear American Apparel or vintage trunks). Or stylish, well-fitting, mindfully-sourced eco bikinis.

Eco bikinis?

My pick: Deux Fm‘s classic string bikini fairly made from 100% reclaimed linen/denim and lined with ultra soft soy/ organic cotton jersey blend. The fit (I’m told, I haven’t tried, really I haven’t) of this “classic string bikini” is great. Anna, a Halifax second-generation Buddhist designer who just flew down to help headline our ecofashion show at the Boulder Theater, uses soft lightweight environmentally-friendly jersey lining for comfort against the skin. It’s sourced and manufactured in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada (not China, like most swimwear), and is built to withstand all sorts of outdoor activity. Hand washing the ecokini in cold water with a non-toxic detergent and laying it flat or hanging to dry will “increase the life of the garment and respect the environment at the same time, very sustainable!”
