Austin Sucks: Don’t Move There! {Infographic}

Austin doesn’t suck.

If you like hot, humid, hot summers, sunny winters and radical thunderstorms with the occasional tornado, Austin offers the ideal climate for you. If you love BBQ, vegan breakfast tacos, yoga teachers, dive bars and hordes of tragic hipsters, consider a move to the city that loves to call itself the Live Music Capital of the World.

I am from Austin and spent most of my life living there, so I get to mess with it, y’all.

I had a happy life in Austin. It was a fantastic place to grow up, go to college and spend my roaring 20s. There are plenty of great things about it, which is why it has earned a spot on every “top cities” list for the last decade. It’s also why scads of Californians move there every day. Which leads to a staunch divide between the “natives”—who’ve lived there for at least five years—and the newer newcomers.

No matter where in the world I am, when I tell someone I’m from the Texas capital, the most common response is, “Oh, I love Austin! I’ve never been there, but my cousin went once and I heard it’s awesome.”

Special gracias to one of my favorite Austinites, Lynne Lively, for bringing this hilarious-because-it’s-true infographic to my attention.
