Happiness is not a Number.

11707-a-woman-measuring

As humans in modern society, I’ve noticed that just about everyone is looking to measure up.

From the minute we learn how to count when we are young we count toys and belongings.

As we grow up, we count friends to measure popularity. We count the years of a relationship as an equivalence of love. We count paychecks, houses, cars and vacations as a measure of success. We count test scores and GPA to calculate our intelligence.

Not to mention, we measure our physical selves as well by measuring weight or waist size to determine beauty and self-worth.

Why is it all about counting and measuring? What number do we have to count to get to happiness?

That’s the secret: there is no number equivalent to bliss.

You can find happiness with a close circle of friends. You don’t have to be in a relationship for years to determine love. You don’t have to be drowning in material things to be successful. You don’t have to have a high GPA to be intelligent as there are many breeds of intellect. And you certainly do not need to look like an airbrushed model to find self-worth as your value is much deeper than your appearance.

You could be the richest, thinnest, smartest, prettiest person, but if there is no joy, if there is no bliss it means nothing.

Happiness is not a number. You cannot measure it and you cannot count it. It is the peace and love in your life that creates a lasting smile and a shining soul.
