The good news is, you do not have to visit an expensive restaurant just to have a taste of a ribeye steak – why not just make it yourself at home? Not only will it be much cheaper, you can have it and enjoy it anytime you want in the comfort of your own home.

A ribeye steak is, no doubt, a lovely dish to cook at home. With a characteristic flavor enhanced by the meat’s natural fat marbling, this steak can turn an everyday event to an extraordinary occasion. Whipping out your own version of a home-made ribeye steak might seem intimidating. But, with a few useful tips, you can make a perfect ribeye steak in your own kitchen. Here are some of them:

Choose good quality meat. Cooking the perfect ribeye steak starts with a carefully chosen meat. Whether you prefer mail order steaks or opt for a stroll down the supermarket meat section, make sure you choose good quality items. Remember to go for higher-grade meat. This is often determined by the degree of marbling in the meat. The marbling in your meat will influence the taste of your steak. Look for prime or choice cuts, as these are the ones that best exhibit the tenderness and marbling attributes that a good-flavored boneless ribeye steak should have. Prime grade cuts are the best kind you can get. Although they are the most expensive, they have the most abundant marbling. If you want something more affordable but with a decent amount of marbling, choice cuts are the ones for you. Although the select grade cuts may still be turned into a good steak, these will not be as juicy or tender as prime grade cuts and choice cuts. Aside from this, try to go for the meat cut that is on the chuck end because the cuts closer to the loin tend to be tough and chewy.

Go for thicker cuts. Choose a thicker cut, as much as possible, as the thinner ones tend to overcook easily. Thick steak cuts ensure that there are enough juiciness and marbling in the meat to make your steak tasty and delicious. The thicker steak cuts are easier to cook at home. If you do not mind having the bone in, go for it! The bone will also add to the flavor and help prevent your steak from drying out while being cooked.

Room temperature is best. Before cooking your steak, make sure that you let it sit for about 30 minutes at room temperature. This evens out the temperature on your meat, from the center outwards. Subsequently, this allows for the meat to be evenly-cooked, making it juicier and tastier.

Lightly oil your meat. You may think that there is no need to oil the meat with all the fat in it. Lightly coating the meat with oil is the best way to go. Not only will it help any seasoning you put on your meat stick, it can prevent your meat from sticking to the pan or the grill.

Season it. Although there are some purists who prefer as little seasoning to their steak as possible, it is perfectly okay to season as much as you want to. The best part of homecooked steaks, after all, is that you get to decide how you want it to taste! 

Heat it up. There are many methods to cook a ribeye steak. Some people prefer to use grillers, while others use a cast-iron pan to sear the meat. Grills are often the easiest way to cook steak at home. If you want a nicer crust, then cooking with a cast-iron pan may be the better option. Regardless of your choice of equipment, make sure you use very high heat when cooking your steak at home. This brings out the steakhouse-style crisp crust, especially when done on a cast-iron pan. Additionally, cooking in high heat makes your steak cook faster, stay tender and retain more moisture.

Keep it still. When making a ribeye steak in your own kitchen, avoid flipping the steak over and over. Instead, sear one side on high heat first, wait for about four minutes, then flip it to cook the other side for another three minutes.

Let it sit. Finally, let your ribeye steak rest, after cooking, for about a few minutes, before you start slicing it or serving it. Allowing the recently-cooked meat to sit and rest prior to consuming it allows for its natural juices to settle and come out, adding more flavor to your dish.
