“Do not use so much plastic, it is not good for the environment”. I have heard similar lines about plastic for as long as I can remember. It was always one of those things that you knew was important but generally didn’t affect you too much, so you didn’t really pay the deserving amount of attention to it.
Now just like the “Me Too” and “Times Up” movements, where the sexual harassment and inequality of women, which just like the plastic epidemic, has been ignored for far too long. These issues are now quiet rightly coming to the fore of public consciousness with non-reversible might and permanence.
The negative effect of plastic in our world is now a critical issue and the various ways it is destroying our planet and finding its way into our food system are becoming topics of great concern, creating conversations all around the world on a level never talked about before. People are making significant changes to their lifestyles and daily habits to try and curb this plastic virus that is enveloping our planet.
The problem of course has been there and known about for a long time just like the women’s rights and equality movements. You would wonder why do we wait for years of possibly non-reversible harm to our environment and our planet before we accept that things need to change. What is it in the human condition that allows us to standby with non action as spectators to the pollution of our spectacular ecosystems and wildlife? The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it. What will we wait for next to be critically harmed or destroyed before we do take action and decide to live a better way? For now, let the anti-plastic revolution prevail!
