We have all heard the phrase “Live each day like it is your last”, at some point in our lives. And you might have wondered, what does this actually mean, and is it truly humanly possible to do this?
If I am unexpectedly on my death bed, I would want to be surrounded by love. I would want my loose ends to be tied. I would want to have no regrets. I would want to be content and peaceful in my last few moments.
To me “live each day like it is your last” translates to “live completely in the present moment” or “live in the now”. To me it means –
Revel in the beauty of nature.
Revel in gratitude for all that you have.
Revel in the fact that you tried something new.
Revel in the warmth of a beautiful friendship.
Revel in a sweet melody.
Revel in making an apology that was long overdue.
Revel in what is around you.
Revel in love within, and around you.
Revel in all this and more.
Living each day like it is your last does not equate to shirking responsibilities or living recklessly. It does not mean –
Leave bills unpaid
Be so impulsive that it hurts others around you
Stop planning the trip coming up next week
Buy something that well exceeds your affordability
But how does one revel in the beauty of nature, in the midst of grief, you might ask.
In those moments-
Revel in your tears
Revel in the sadness of the loss
Revel in silence
Revel in memories
Tears are just as beautiful as smiles. Tears are a beautiful part of your present moment. So don’t let anyone tell you that you are not living in the present moment. Because this is your very best in the present moment. This is “Now”.
So, to live each day like it is your last, “Live each moment to the fullest, to your best ability in the moment, and know that your best changes from moment to moment!”
