The Weight of Absence: Reflections on Suicide in the Military.
Anna Sommer earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, emphasis in Writing, from Minnesota State University Moorhead, a Master of Science in Adult Education and graduate certificate in Academic Advising from Kansas State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing from Lindenwood University. After completing an internship at New River Press, Anna was inspired by the writing, editing, and publishing fields, and has worked to incorporate aspects of each in her career. She has over 15 years of experience in areas such as writing and editing for company websites, blogs, and social media outlets; managing content publishing and auditing schedules; editing speeches for events such as commencement ceremonies; developing training materials and online resources; editing books and educational resources for the K-12 and higher education industries; and editing book manuscripts as well as participating in writing workshops for aspiring authors. Anna has a deep passion for utilizing the written word in ways that spark awareness, inspiration, and connection. While Anna enjoys all forms of writing and editing, she is especially passionate about the non-fiction genres of memoir, military writing, and spiritual writing. She is an avid reader and writer herself and feels the most authentic when writing or being inspired by the writing of others. She is currently working on a book that shares her experiences as a military spouse. Anna also teaches yoga and meditation, and specializes in trauma-sensitive practices for communities such as the military and military families. Her favorite yogis are her two kids, with whom with she loves exploring the world.
