Born in Maryland in 1969, Vanessa Cass is an accomplished artist having done the Beaux Arts and studying with Haitian masters such as Dorcely, Tiga and Arijac after moving to the island at young age in complicated circumstances. She then discovered street photography and fell in love with it, and studied with Eric Kim and considers Haiti a hotspot for the craft. With many photo projects going she considers herself to be somewhat of an activist but mostly a lover of the human story, and easily outraged by the human condition. Another of her passions is cooking, so much so that she is studying to become a professional chef, with the idea to study the origins and stories of Caribbean and Southern food, all tying it in with her other passion, which is writing, mainly food chronicling. She is a practicing Zen Buddhist, a single mom to two human and three dogs,
