Persistency and the People We Meet
As a yoga therapist I love working with all types of people. When I started practicing yoga after retiring from the Army I had no idea what it was going to do for me, I just knew I needed something to help heal the mental, physical, and emotional damage I had experienced due to serving over two decades in the Army. At first I was skeptical, thinking yoga was not something “real men” do. I was sorely mistaken; indeed it has amazing physical benefits, but that’s only the beginning. What I also found is yoga helped me during the process of healing from PTSD and a lifelong struggle with eating disorders. Read my story HERE. If only I had the tools of yoga earlier to help me with the stress of extremely long and arduous deployments and separations from family. Once I began practicing yoga I never stopped, and in the past several years have undergone extensive training in yoga therapy, yoga teaching, and specialty yoga training in working with military populations with trauma. My education, coupled with my own personal experiences have given me a unique ability to understand and truly help guide you towards greater physical, emotional, and mental health. It is so satisfying and meaningful to me to be able to connect with and help others, especially those who have bravely and selflessly served our country. I graduated in July 2017 with a Master of Science degree in yoga therapy from Maryland University of Integrative Health – the first and only educational institution in the United States to offer an M.S. in Yoga Therapy. I am certified (C-IAYT) with the International Association of Yoga Therapists and am registered with Yoga Alliance as a Yoga Teacher (RYT-500).Originally from the California Bay Area, I own a small yoga therapy business, Tacoma Yoga Therapy and most recently worked as a Yoga Therapist in Tacoma, Washington at Madigan Army Medical Center in the Interdisciplinary Pain Management Center (IPMC). Athletics: I have extensive running and triathlon experience and was my NCAA Conference Cross Country champion (1995) and two time Academic All-American athlete. I have a personal best marathon time of 2h:42m (Boston 96).
