You Deserve Love: How to Break Away from Codependency & the Addiction to Toxic R…
Paula Taylor decided to “be a psychologist” at 16 years old. For over half her life, she been interested in what makes people tick. As is the case with most people who go into therapeutic fields, she was searching for her own answers. She has been interested in the human psyche and why we do the things we do for as long as she can remember. She wanted to know why she struggled in certain areas and couldn’t ask her own mother as she was taken from her at 17 years old. This was the catalyst for her to start her own journey of self-discovery and healing. After high school, she applied and was accepted into Rhodes University in South Africa to study a Bachelor of Arts Degree. She chose to major in psychology and sociology. She then went on to do an Honors degree in Psychology there too. After taking a year off to work and rest, she decided to travel and went over to London, U.K. on a work/holiday visa for 2 years.
This is where she started working with children and families in various temp roles, predominantly assisting preschool teachers in classrooms. She then travelled to Melbourne, Australia to study Masters in Humanistic Psychotherapy at LA Trobe University. This included a year of internship whilst studying in the second year. She remained in Melbourne for another 4 years after graduating and started her work with vulnerable and at-risk families in two amazing NGO organisations in Melbourne after graduating.
She has been working with families, and in parenting for a number of years now. She thoroughly enjoyed giving seminars and workshops to parents and educators in my work in Melbourne and she put that passion into her social media sites where she makes free videos and regularly gives out psycho educational information to parents from all over the world. Her experience is diverse and even includes a year and a half stint as a principal and teacher in a tiny little school out in the South African bush.
Her dream has always been to work for herself and that came true. She took the leap of faith to launch her practice “Tackle the Feelings Before the Behaviour” on July 25, 2018, and has been steadily growing and expanding ever since. Her chosen field is emotional regulation and childhood trauma. She aims to prevent childhood emotional neglect by teaching parents methods to regulate their children emotionally and promote emotional health and awareness. She works closely with the “Attachment” relationship (or parent-child bond) and how connected and tuned in parents are to their children emotionally. She also teaches people how to work with emotional regulation to heal trauma.
She found many of the answers she was looking for in her own life and now she takes what she knows and she empowers people with knowledge, new perspectives, and tools for their own journeys. Her mission is to “bring emotions back.” This, she believes, is how we heal the world.
